Here you have that old favorite Space Invaders – this freeware installer has been tested:

Download Invaders for the PC zipped installer Now
unzip the file to a directory of your choosing. This is a basic program and will run outside of windows. In other words it’s a stand alone program. You may wish to right click on the zipped file and select properties. A recent security and “data Execution prevention” feature on windows systems is to block all incoming zipped files and executable programs. If the program has been blocked there is a button in the file properties menu box to click “unblock Program”. Once the program is unzipped bring up the properties window once more. While you have the properties window open for the file inv78-02.exe select the compatibility tab. Check the box to use 256 colors. That’s all. You can run the program. If you have Norton you will might  a warning box telling you that something didn’t load. Click ignore on this window and play your game. This game doesn’t need to load anything (especially not dll files). A zipped file has been used in order to insure that the three origional files are kept together.

or the easy way: Go to the folder with the file and open it like you normally open files or Create a shortcut from inv78-02.exe and send the shortcut to the desktop or somewhere you’ll remember
